Homemade Dried Cinnamon and Clove Apples using a Dehydrator

Homemade Dried Cinnamon and Clove Apples using a Dehydrator

At least twice a year I make a batch of homemade apple rings in our dehydrator. But they never last long; they are a hot commodity in our house. They are definitely one of the easiest snacks to make, store and take along anywhere.

• You do not need to add any sweeteners when drying apples. The natural sugars in the apples get more intense during the drying process making them sweet enough for everyone to enjoy. • Soaking the apple slices for 5 minutes before drying with lemon juice prevent browning. • If you are planning on storing your apple rings, err on the side of over-drying. This will also prevent mold growth.

Ingredients

1. 2 lb. apples 2. 1 Tbsp cinnamon verum and a little clove (I love cloves). 3. lemon juice from 2 lemons (optional) Instructions 1. Wash, and core apples. 2. Slice apples thinly and evenly (1/4 inch). 3. Soak slices in a mix of 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1-quart water to avoid any browning. 4. Sprinkle slices with cinnamon and clove. 5. Place apples on dehydrator. 6. Dehydrate at 135°F (57°C) for 8-10 hours. 7. Check apples for any moisture on outside and inside. The slices should feel dry and leathery without any tackiness. 8. Allow to cool several hours before storing in an airtight bag or container. 9. Store or eat them 😊
